Police impound ASG cars at a funeral

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Police impounded four Port Administration vehicles parked at a funeral in Faganeanea last week.  Department staff had used the vehicles to take  a traditional presentation or sii to the funeral when police arrived and confiscated the vehicles.

Officers said they were merely following instructions by the governor for police to impound any ASG vehicle found on the road after hours without a 24-hour sticker.  DPS officials said that Governor Togiola issued a memo to this effect last week.  Witnesses said police officers arrived at the funeral and asked for the keys to the four vehicles, then drove off in them.  The Port Administration cars were parked at the AP Lutali Executive Office Building parking lot.

Nuutai Sonny Thompson, Director of Administrative Services is in charge of impounded vehicles.  Departments have to pay $100 to get their vehicles released.
