MYD Inc. calls reversal of award a "real blow"

Monday, June 8, 2009

MYD Inc. says it will have to lay off 25% of its workers now that the government has cancelled the contract award to drydock the MV Sili.

The American Bureau of Shipping came through with an extension on the Sili’s load line last Thursday however after it learned that the award to MYD Inc. had been cancelled it revoked the extension. As a result, the load line certificate expired last Friday and the US Coast Guard has issued a captain of the port order stopping the MV Sili from making any further trips.

Acting Chief Procurement Officer Ivy Taufaasau said in a letter to MYD Inc., President Bob Weihe, “we regret to inform you that the Director of Port Administration has instructed our office to withdraw our letter of award dated May 28 for the dry dock services and repairs to the MV Sili, due to the lack of funds for this project."

President of MYD Inc. Bob Weihe says the cancellation is a real blow to the local shipyard, which had geared up to hire more workers to tackle the MV Sili repairs.
