Monday,
June 22, 2009
Before the start of the Senate session this morning, the new senator for Fofo District, Avegalio Aigamaua was sworn in to fill the seat left vacant by the passing of Senator Tuitele Tony Tuitele in March.
Senate President Gaoteote Palaie appointed Senators Lualemaga Faoa, Seui Laau, and Letalu Maui to review if requirements of the law regarding the selection of senators had been complied with.
In a few minutes the committee chairman Lualemaga reported back to the Senate that Avegalio met all of the qualifications and requirements under local law and recommended that the new senator be endorsed. Judge Mamea Sala Jr., administered the oath of office with Mrs. Mina Avegalio holding the bible.
The children, friends and relatives of Senator Avegalio filled the Senate balcony to witness his swearing in. Afterwards the Fofo senator and his family hosted a luncheon for the Senators. There was no other item on the Senate agenda this morning.
