Lawmaker laments lack of response from Port

Monday, June 22, 2009

The Chairman of the House Transportation Committee Rep. Vaitoa Hans Langkilde has not received a response from Port Director Matagi Ray McMoore on the government’s back up plans for boat transportation for Manu’a while government vessels are out of commission.

Vaitoa informed the House today that residents of Manua are reliant on the government to maintain regular transportation between Tutuila and Manu'a.  He said he’s heard that the MV sili is operating again though it’s still unclear from Port Adminsitraion how long this will last. He said there’s also no information on the status of the other government boat the Manuatele.

Vice Speaker Laolagi Savali Vaeao has encouraged members to hold hearings on this and other pressing issues as there’s no rule limiting hearings to only matters on the agenda of the Fono special session.
