The Chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, Rep. Vaiausia Yandall says lawmakers need to be clear on the need for an Internal Auditor before acting on an administration bill which appropriates $100,000 to fund the newly created office of the Internal Auditor.
The Fofo lawmaker says it’s necessary that the House obtain an opinion from the legal counsel and Attorney General about the new position before it moves to review funding for the office.
Vaiausia says another position in the Treasurer’s office, that of comptroller remains vacant. The committee chairman also questioned how funding approved in the past few years in the Territorial Audit Office budget for Territorial Auditor position has been used. The position has been vacant since 2005. The administration is seeking $70,000 to increase funding for the Territorial Audit Office.
