High Court News

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

A man accused of sexually abusing a 16 year old girl changed his mind about a plea agreement and is now set to stand trial.

Assistant Attorney General Lisa Johns said, the defendant Simaka Fa'asili already signed the plea agreement however he changed his mind at the last minute. The plea agreement for Faasili was rejected by the court last month.  He was to plead guilty to first degree sexual abuse and the government would drop first degree burglary.

But when Associate Justice Lyle Richmond asked the defendant to recount what happened, he said he was so drunk he couldn’t remember anything.

Faasili appeared this morning for a change of plea but once again he changed his mind.  Richmond has set trial on August 18th.
