Land Grant sees more interest in farming

Thursday, June 25, 2009

The Land Grant Division reports that there’s more people requesting taro and banana shoots than in the past.

Aufa’i Areta the manager of the extension division and acting forestry program manager at Land Grant. says it's not just farmers who’re requesting planting material but individual families as well.

He says taro, bananas and sweet potatoes are being distributed by the Land Grant Division in conjunction with the Agriculture Department.  Also proving very popular is tilapia farming.

Aufa’i said that Land Grant is very pleased with the initiative by the Office of Samoan Affairs to promote subsistence farming and fishing during the village inspections currently underway.
