Doctors will be on duty at Amouli Dispensary

Friday, June 26, 2009

The $1.3 million which the Department of Health has already received in stimulus funding has made it possible to hire doctors who will staff outlying dispensaries and also upgrade equipment for primary care.

Acting Director of Health Tuiasina Dr. Salamo Laumoli said Amouli dispensary will have doctors available for the first time to treat patients. There will also be a full time dentist assigned to Amouli.  He said for the first time the dispensaries will be able to provide both preventative and primary care. He said hopefully by making doctors available in the dispensaries this would help alleviate congestion at the LBJ emergency Room and cut down waiting time to see the doctor.

Except for well baby clinics, immunizations and screening, the Amouli dispensary will charge the $10 outpatient fee to see the doctor. Dr. Laumoli said once the dispensary in Leone is completed, a doctor and dentist will also be assigned to the Western District facility.
