Rain or shine, the June Jones football academy kicks off this afternoon.
Former NFL stars such as Jesse Sapolu of San Francisco 49er fame and the throwing Samoan Jack Thompson, who was a quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals along with other former pro players have traveled here with the SMU Head Coach Jones to give free clinics for local high school players. The clinics start at 1:30 this afternoon with speed training and will continue tomorrow.
At the end of the clinic Coach Jones will award five $2,000 scholarships to local students. More than $150,000 worth of medical supplies equipment and toys will also be donated to the local hospital by a medical team led by the wife of assistant Football coach at Southern Methodist University Jeff Reinebold.
Maa Tanuvasa and Jack Thomson appeared on this morning’s Samoa Sunrise Show.
