DHSS employees are paycheckless

Friday, June 26, 2009

About 40 employees of the Department of Human and Social Services will have to wait until next week to see if they will get paid.

The employees said they were promised that they will be issued checks today however that turned out to be an empty promise.  A spokesperson for the group said they were told that there’s no money in the account, which covers their salaries.

It was their understanding that their director had discussed with the Treasurer, paying them with local funds, for the time being until federal funds are received and ASG would be reimbursed.

However they learned this morning that no arrangement had been made to cover their paychecks.

According to the spokesperson, they were advised not to see the governor or talk to the media when they didn’t received their checks on Monday. They were promised that their paychecks would be issued today. She said, we trusted our leaders would come through for us but we feel let down.
