Made in Brazil pisupo confiscated

Friday, June 26, 2009

Acting Director of Agriculture Aomalo Manupo Turituri is urging importers to comply with federal regulations for the importation of meat products after the confiscation of 49 cases of corned beef from Brazil on Friday.

The US Department of Agriculture meat inspector Jannette Pagan Sanchec confiscated the goods because of some discrepancies in the packaging. She said that two different types of corned beef were repacked in new boxes. She said the shipment will be destroyed.

Aomalo said importers need to contact the federal meat inspector before they import foreign meat products to avoid any problems.

Pagan Sanchez said the importer is not being fined.
