Dr. Tuliau: No need to name villages
Monday,
June 29, 2009
The eight people confirmed to have contracted the HINI flu have already been notified and health officials say there’s no evidence that the flu has spread to other family members.
Medical Director at the Department of Health Dr. Ivan Tuliau stressed that all of the patients have fully recovered. The Health Department is awaiting confirmation on whether one other case confirmed by the Hawaii State Laboratory was from American Samoa or Hawaii.
Since we reported Friday about the 8 confirmed cases of swine flu, members of the public have asked about the villages where the patients are from. However Dr. Tuliau said it was not necessary to disclose the villages. He said the cases have fully recovered so there’s no need for alarm.
The Unified Health Command is stepping up its awareness campaign on preventive measures and is asking the public to follow health tips already announced. These include coughing etiquette, washing hands thoroughly and staying away from big crowds if you are ill.
Governor Togiola said on his radio program Saturday that the public should not panic but heed advice from health authorities.
