Wednesday, July 1, 2009

The House of Representatives has approved in second reading four money bills totaling $700,000, which the administration submitted for review during the Special Session.

The bills provide funding for the American Samoa Economic Stimulus Office, Independent Prosecutor’s Office, Internal Audit office and Territorial Audit Office.

Six representatives, did not raise their hands when the Speaker called for a show of hands from those supporting the bills: Galu Jr. Satele, Laolagi Fonoti Vaeao, Archie Taotasi Soliai, Vaito’a Hans Langkilde, Maugaoalii Leapai Anoa’i and Larry Sanitoa.

The vote came after discussion of a revenue collection report from Treasury for the second quarter of 2009 ending March 31, 2009. The report showed that actual revenues collected up to March 31 were ahead of projections by $849,000. There were shortfalls of $393,175 in tax collections and a shortfall of $124,000 in Enterprise Fund accounts .
