Governor forms new economic advisory council

Monday, November 19, 2007

A new government panel comprising government and private sector officials has been formed to advise the governor on the formulation of long-term economic development for American Samoa. The council is chaired by the governor’s senior policy advisor Dr. Oreta Togafau and Chamber of Commerce President David Robinson. The council is intended to forge closer collaboration between the private sector and government in economic development. The governor said it is critical for both sectors to work towards aligning public and private community resources to ensure the design and execution of effective, long term economic policies for the territory. This will aid government in understanding, designing and implementing economic development programs and policies to meet American Samoa’s unique circumstances. The governor said economic policies would improve the quality of life for the people of American Samoa through a market driven economy that is dynamic, enterprising, self sustaining and responsive to changes and fluctuations in the global economy.
