House and Senate meet separately at start of Special Session

Monday, April 28, 2008

The House and Senate will meet separately this morning at the start of the Fono special session convened by Governor Togiola a week ago.

Though it’s not required, the governor has on occasion spoken at the start of previous special session. Senate President Lolo Moliga said this morning that each chamber will hold its own session and the governor will not be making an appearance. The governor’s agenda items for the special session are the military voting bill teacher salaries, funding for the LBJ hospital, copyright law and confirmation of members of boards and commissions. The Fono leaders are introducing a resolution calling on Congress to halt the next 50-cent hike in the minimum wage.
