Gaea: I wont respond to false statements

Treasurer Gaea Perefoti Failautusi says he will not react to former ASG comptroller Brian Mix’s attack of his professional ability.
Gaea said yesterday, “I will not respond to false statements.” In his resignation letter Mix was harsh in his criticism of the Treasurer saying that Gaea’s performance has been nothing less than an “arrogant, miserable failure.” Mix accused Gaea of overturning internal controls set up by the previous treasurer and said point blank that Gaea was an impediment to improvements in financial management in Treasury and ASG in general. Gaea brushed off Mix’s indictment of his performance saying he knows his job and does not need Mix to tell him how Treasury should be run.
The Treasurer said that he only spoke with Mix only once and the former comptroller never once raises any concerns with his management style. Mix said Gaea’s decision to override controls with a wink and a handshake make him part of the problem and not a viable solution to the ills inside ASG. But according to Gaea business people are happy that bills from 2 years ago have now been paid. He said one of his first decisions as Treasurer was to pay outstanding bills and local businesses were very happy he did that.
