Tuesday,
April 29, 2008
This morning the Senate has confirmed the appointment of Paramount Chief Tufele Lia as a member of the Hospital Authority Board.
The Senate endorsed Tufele, by a vote of 14-2. Tufele is currently the District Governor of Manua and heads the American Samoa Diabetic Association. He was the first locally elected Lt Governor, a position he held for three terms. There’s one remaining vacancy on the Hospital Board, the seat held by a doctor. Dr. Fred Urhle who was the doctor representative has resigned because of a conflict of interest to his job as Director of the VA Clinic. The Chairman of the Hospital Authority Board Moananu Va said the governor has asked the board and LBJ management to recommend an off island doctor who could fill the vacancy.
