SPEX grounds flights, awaits NZ approval
Tuesday,
April 29, 2008
South Pacific Express Inc. is grounding flights for the next two weeks while it obtains approval to operate under NZ Civil Aviation Authority regulations.
SPEX operated its last flight today under the Federal Aviation Administration. Avamua Dave Haleck is hopeful that SPEX will obtain its airworthiness certificate in two weeks. Because the company is now registered in Samoa, it will be treated as a foreign carrier and would need to obtain approval from the US Department of Transportation to fly to Pago Pago. Avamua said the inspection by the New Zealand authorities is set for May 5-9. The suspension of flights was planned and passengers who tried to make bookings were informed that SPEX would not be flying.
