ASG receives $20.4 m from US Treasury

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

The money is in the bank.

All $20.4 million to fund federal tax rebates and credits for local taxpayers. The US Treasury wire transferred the funds yesterday and the money is now in a separate account with the Bank of Hawaii. Tax Office Manager Melvin Joseph says checks should be out in two weeks though they are trying to get them out sooner.

Checks will be distributed according to the order in which 2007 returns were filed. Those who filed first will receive their rebate checks first but the amount of checks in each batch would be up to 3,000. Checks will be disbursed according to alphabetical order of surnames and the Tax Office will assign specific days of the week for taxpayers whose names begin with a certain letter to pick up their checks. The distribution schedule will be announced in the local media.
