Senate president unhappy with LBJ CEO

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

The newest member of the Hospital Authority Board Paramount chief Tufele Li’amatua was told that the board needs to do a better job of selecting people in management positions at LBJ.

During Tufele’s confirmation hearing yesterday Senate President Lolo Moliga referred to the abrupt termination of the former CEO Kirk Gray who was only in the job for 7 months. He also pointed to the current CEO Patricia Tindall who was originally hired as the Chief Financial Officer. Lolo said Tindall’s background was in finance, not hospital management. And it appeared to him that the board picked someone who would be at their beck and call, rather than someone who is well qualified to take charge of the hospital. The Senate President felt that Tindall has made unsound decisions but did not give any examples. He said the CEO was doing what the board wants. Lolo added that he did not believe there is enough time in the special session to act on an appropriation bill for the Hospital.
