The Senate is seeking information about the latest development in the fiber optic project and agreements that the government has made with private companies.
Senate President Lolo Moliga has written to Governor Togiola saying since after the approval of funding for the fiber optic, the Senate has been waiting for a report on the project but the only information it has received has been through the media. Lolo has asked the governor to explain the partnership existing between ASG and private companies involved in the fiber optic project, explain the role of the Department of Interior and the terms and conditions of ASG’s investment. He asked the governor to explain what American Samoa is receiving for the $9 million it’s spending on the project. Lolo said the Senate has received information that ASG has entered into an exclusive agreement with a company involving Mr. John Newton to establish call centers on the island. He was referring to Information technology American Samoa. The first mention of ASG giving Info Tech exclusive rights to establish call centers surfaced during discussions with another company that was here last month to explore the possibility of setting up a call center here.
