May 2, 2008
The President of Brigham Young University, Hawaii Dr. Steve Wheelright is visiting the territory.
Dr. Wheelright, accompanied by his wife and the Dean of Admissions, was appointed as the BYU Hawaii President last July. He was on the faculty of Harvard University School of Business for many years and was most recently the Dean of Business studies at the ivy league university. Dr. Wheelright is here to meet with alumni, local leaders and potential BYU recruits and will use his visit to explain some of the improvements he’s made or planned at the school and to familiarize himself with the South Pacific.
Dr Wheelright met with Governor Togiola and the President to the American Samoa Community College Dr Seth Galeai, and will also visit Star Kist Samoa. A reception will be hosted in his honor by the BYU alumni at 5pm today at the Malaeimi Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He will also speak at a firesite at the stake center at 7 this evening. Dr. Wheelright will travel to Apia tomorrow and will return to Honolulu Sunday night.
