Call to review rights of guest workers
Tuesday,
May 6, 2008
Senator Alo Stevenson alerted the Senate today about his grave concerns on the rights of guest worker employees.
Alo said his worry is that children born of guest workers would be classified as US nationals. He urged the Senate President to have attorneys conduct a legal review of this issue because he said there are serious implications. Senator Alo made the comments upon receiving a report from the Attorney General’s Office that 53 guest worker permits were issued to Star Kist employees in the latest batch approved by the Attorney General. This was batch #7 for Star Kist Samoa since the guest worker law went into effect last year.
