Pago gets funds to remove tamaligi
Tuesday,
July 15, 2008
Pago Pago Village has been awarded a grant of $15,000 by the environmental organization Seacology to eradicate tamaligi trees growing in Pago Pago lands outside of the National Park.
The American Samoa National Park applied for the grant with the blessings of the Pago Pago Village council. Tavita Togia the invasive plant specialist for the National Park said the grant was needed because park funds cannot be used to pay for the eradication of the tamaligi in lands outside the park. The villagers themselves will remove the invasive trees.
