Festival moves to Veterans Memorial Stadium

Each of the 23 countries here for the Pacific Arts Festival will make cultural presentations at the official opening ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Stadium, which begins at 5 this evening.
Following the tradition from past festivals, the delegations will parade and present gifts from their islands to the hosts and the South Pacific Commission. This evening the American Samoa combined festival choir will perform the theme song, Suiga Ula a le Atuvasa, composed by Namulauulu Dr. Paul Pouesi and his wife Lulu. Choirs from various denominations in Pago Pago and Fagatogo villages make up the choir. Several flags will be raised after the invocation by Bishop John Quinn Weitzel, leader of the Catholic Church in American Samoa. There's the US and American Samoa flags, the South Pacific Commission flag and the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts flag. There are just two speeches on the program this evening. One by Governor Togiola Tulafono and the other by Linda Peterson, Human Development Program Manager for the South Pacific Commission The Kananafou High School will provide entertainment and the Katina Brothers will cap off the evening.
