Taking care of health
Monday,
July 21, 2008
In the last 24 hours about 28 festival participants have been seen at the Tafuna Health Center and the mobile clinic at Utulei Beach for a variety of ailments ranging from diarrhea and the flu to asthmatic attacks and injuries.
Medical Director for the Department of Health Dr Ivan Tuliau says at least five were referred to the LBJ ER. The injuries were from a rugby match at the Kananafou field on Saturday. Dr. Tuliau said there was nothing for the men to do at the compound so they had a rugby match, which resulted in some injuries but nothing serious. The medical team at the New Zealand camp at Nuuuli Polytech attended to at least 20 cases with their own medical supplies. Dr. Tuliau says opening up the Tafuna Health Center, the mobile clinic at Utulei Beach and having the New Zealanders provide for their own medical needs, has left the LBJ Hospital free to handle local cases.
